Featuring a variety of historic sites that were significant in the life of America's 31st president, the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site includes over half a dozen distinct properties. After a stop at the visitor center, where maps, exhibits and helpful park employees can give you directions and information about the site, head to the Birthplace Cottage, built in 1871 by Hoover's grandfather. Journey on to the Blacksmith Shop, the Schoolhouse and the Friends Meetinghouse, all preserved in the condition they existed in towards the end of the 19th century. Pay your respects at the Gravesite, where Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover are buried under simple slabs of Vermont marble. Spend a while at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum where exhibit galleries give a deeper look into Hoover's life and career. All of these sites are contained within the small town of West Branch, located just off I-80 about 12 miles east of Iowa City.
Most sites are open daily 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Grounds open 24 hours daily.
Free entry to most sites. Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum: Adults $6; Seniors (62+) $3; Children 15 and under are free.
